None as of the July article reported in this thread: http://www.pridesbur...dpost__p__48032
I guess the developer feels if he builds it, they will come?

Where did they get this information from:
"When PREIT pulled out, the Frankford Arsenal project's demise was a blow to the old, industrial neighborhood where redevelopment has been slow but desperately sought by the community"
Most people I know don't want a shopping center anywhere near the community.

I would say that it is the editorial opinion of the Philadelphia Business Journal since the same wording was used in the article dated 9/1/2000 -

"I think there might be some community concerns about making sure the community isn't left out," he continued, adding that Bridesburg residents want to have more say in future development of the site.
Neighbors of the arsenal were "cautious" about the power center project "because they didn't know specifically what was going on there," Kosinski said.
Well, I don't see where surrounding communities, Bridesburg, Whitehall and Wissinoming, got any say in anything currently happening.

I remember folks being against it but I don't remember any zoning ruling or court ruling that stopped the prior project based on community input. All I can find on the web are stories that the prior developer decided to concentrate their resources elsewhere.

We should have a say but we didn't get a say. We were bypassed somehow. I didn't see any prior notices anywhere about this development. Well, this should come as no surprise. There were community organizations opposed to Sugar House casino, (see the web site http://www.phillyalliance.org/ as an example), but Sugar House is nearly finished and ready for opening.
The same thing will happen with the Arsenal project.
It appears our local political reps were there for a photo session at groundbreaking and they failed to tell us the details ahead of time.

Hm, the last I heard from DRCC reps who were discussing the river trail, Delaware Avenue is scheduled to be extended to Orthodox street in the first phase, then to Buckius and supposedly this money was appropriated and in a budget ready to be spent after they are done with the central Delaware trail from Center City to Pulaski Park. They would then like a bridge built over the old mouth of the Frankford Creek and Delaware Avenue taken past the arsenal grounds but this seems just to be a wish list and isn't a part of any design plan I've seen on the web.

Tom Waring's article is also published in The Star, August 5th edition, now being delivered to area homes. It is the front page story.

The project now has its own web site.
Site includes maps and artist renderings of the project.
It looks like a giant central parking lot in the middle with anchor stores around the north, east and south sides. Entrance is from Tacony Street. The map also shows a future extension of Delaware Ave along the river side of the Arsenal that then turns along the north side to reach Tacony Street. View the map here: http://www.arsenalsh...er.org/site.htm

It is good to know that they're not knocking everything down in the Arsenal. I just hope that this area isn't subjected to vandalization and robbery by goofs.

The Spirit Community Newspapers has an article on the shopping center at the arsenal and this paragraph jumped out at me:

I know we have a few members here who are involved with Bridesburg Civic Association. So, when was a meeting held by the Civic to discuss this shopping center development and when did they and Bridesburg Business Association and Bridesburg Development Corp. endorse this on our behalf? Did our local groups endorse this and not tell us or were only groups in Wissinoming, Whitehall and Frankford approached?
